2010 SUPERGEN UK-China PhD Student Summer School and Workshop on Smart Grid

With great pleasure, I am announcing that the SUPERGEN UK-China PhD Student Summer School and Workshop on Smart Grids will be held in Hangzhou, China, Sept. 13-15 2010. This event is financially supported by the RCUK Office in Beijing. The host is School of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University, China.

If you are a PhD student working in the area of smart grids in the UK or China, you are invited to attend the event. To register your attendance, please contact me at:

If you would like to present your research work in the discussion sessions, please send me one page summary of your presentation by June 20 2010.

If you are a PhD student working in any SUPERGEN consortium in the UK and is selected to present your work in the discussion sessions, you will be provided with free hotel accommodation and food by the event organizer between the 13th and 15th Sept. 2010 when you attend the event.

UK-China Workshop and PhD Student Summer School on Smart Grids

'UK-China workshop and PhD student summer school on smart grids' was held at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, 12-17 Sept. 2010. The event was jointly organized by the Electric Power and Energy Systems Research Cluster, the Queen’s University of Belfast, and the School of Electrical Engineering, Zhejiang University. It was jointly funded by the science bridge award project, the RCUK Beijing Office and the Natural Science Foundation of China.

The focus of presentations by invited speakers and PhD students and discussions in the workshop and summer school was the security and safety of smart grids, power transmission and distribution to accommodate renewable power generation and CO2-controlled power consumption in future. Over 80 people from universities in the UK and China and from power companies in China attended the workshop. The workshop was jointly chaired by Prof. Fushuan Wen, Zhejiang University, and Prof. Haifeng Wang, the QUB. The summer school was chaired by Dr. Wenjuan Du, the QUB.
