UK-CHINA WORKSHOP ON SUSTAINABLE POWER GENERATION AND SUPPLY (SUPERGEN)

Organized by the UK-China Network on Clean Energy Research, UK, and hosted by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), China, the UK-China Workshop on Sustainable Power Generation and Supply (SUPERGEN) was held in Beijing from the 16th to 18th October 2007. The event is sponsored by the State Grid Corporation, China, and the Engineering Physics Science Research Council (EPSRC) Interact 4 program, UK. The workshop has arranged three sessions, opening session, technical session and ending session.

In the opening session of the workshop, Prof. Xiaoxin Zhou Fellow of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chief Engineer, the EPRI, China, gave a speech on “Chinese power industry and development”. Prof. Nigel Brandon, Energy Senior Research Fellow, EPSRC, from the Imperial College, UK, delivered a presentation on “The UK Research Council's Energy Program”. Eleven speakers from the UK SUPERGEN consortia and Chinese power companies and institutions presented the invited technical lectures on 5 topics: solar power, wind generation, network technology, clean power generation and energy storage In the ending session, Dr. Carol Rennie from the RCUK office in China and Prof. Feili Huang from the Natural Science Foundation of China, gave talks on funding opportunities in the UK and China for UK-China research collaboration. 

Over 130 people attended the workshop and all technical lectures have been published in a special issue of Chinese journal, Power Network Technology.
